just about the top of the hour. take a look at this. three firefighters narrowly escaped. the building gave way at the base. they formed a chain to pull each other out of that collapsing roof. all three walked away without any injuries. -- captions by vitac -- www.vitac.com from the cnn center, this is "cnn saturday morning." it's 11:00 a.m. in the east, 8 a.m. in the west. good morning. i'm randi kaye. millions lined up to win big and guess what? it looks like three winners in different states will split the jackpot. a chemical linked to breast and prostate cancer has been

found in many of your household products and we'll explain what it is and how to get it out of your home. some of you may be planning a trip to sunny florida or what about war-torn libya. yes, it's happening. i'll explain. first let's talk about what everybody's talking about today. three winners will split the million dollar jackpot. the winning numbers are right here for you. 2, 4, 23, 38, 46, mega ball 23. our athena jones is in baltimore county watching it all unfold. what do we know about the 7-eleven there in maryland where that ticket was sold. >> reporter: we're just outside the city of baltimore. we know at about 7:15 p.m., someone came in and used that red machine back there to buy a quick pick ticket. that's the ticket that picks the numbers for you. those were the lucky numbers that allowed this winner to win
11:02 am
this sizeable jackpot which we know is a record-setting jackpot. much bigger than the $390 million jackpot from a few years ago back in 2007. it's only been 12 hours so we don't yet know who the winner is. i had a chance to speak with maryland's lottery director about winners coming forward. let's listen to what he has to say. >> maryland is one of the few states that does not require publicity of its lottery winners. we had two power ball jackpot winners laugh year and neither one of them decided to do any publicity. so we'll have to wait to see what happens. >> reporter: one thing they advise the winner is to make sure they sign the back of the ticket. make a copy of it, put it in a safe place and get a lawyer. make sure they get all the advise they need so they can come and claim this and know what to do with the money once they do get that big chunk of cash, randi. >> how long do they have to come forward? >> reporter: you know, they have 182 days. i asked why the extra two days.
11:03 am
why not just a straight six months. they said, weekends and that sort of thing. so they have 182 days to come forward. i don't know about you. if i won it, i'd come pretty quickly as soon as i got my lawyer and ducks in a row, i'd want my money right away. >> no kidding. was it a quick pick, or how did it work? >> reporter: it was a quick pick. that machine right there. it was hot last night. >> got it. >> reporter: and so they came in and it picked those numbers for it. you know. >> the store gets the money too, right? >> reporter: that's right. the store gets $100,000. so that's a big chunk of change just for kind of tapping onto someone else's luck. they get 5 cents on every dollar. >> athena, i know where you're going to buy your ticket next time. so keep your eye on that red machine. >> reporter: absolutely. >> willful. coming up, financial expert

my meineke. mega millions, isn't that mitt romney's secret service code name? what is the jackpot? $640 million? that's a lot. even the greek government was over herebying lottery tickets. give me a bunch of those tickets. >> very funny. well, a few lucky winners of the mega millions jackpot will be laughing all the way to the bank, you can count on that. here's a look at the winning numbers, 2, 4, 23, 38, 46, and the mega ball is 23. the winning tickets were sold in maryland, illinois, and kansas. earlier i spoke with clyde anderson about what the lucky winners zhould with their new-found fortune. >> don't go out there and say
11:11 am
it's me, it's me. don't rush out and do it, take your time, breathe for a moment you've got to have a plan. plans is essential to what i'm going to do. in order to have flan, you've got to have the right team. you need a good accountant, one to manage the funds a and attorney. then together you can put that plan in place. >> don't rush and get a team together. >> yes, yes. >> what do you advise them? do you advise that or -- >> yes, i do. you want to make money off of my money. you know, use your own money to make money off of it instead of having them control it and keep it somewhere. you can make so much money off the interest. get the lump sum payment and go ahead and earn interest off it. i think it's $270 million. even if you got a municipal bond, you could make $10 million a year on interest. >> i think the lump sum is $470
11:12 am
million. >> make sure you give uncle sam his piece of it as well. but that's a huge amount of money that you can live off the interest. >> if you can live off the interest and you make all this money, why is it so many lottery winners end up bankrupt? >> you have to realize, when people are buying and all this frenzy, people are buying in hope. it's hope of having something different or a different life. as soon as they get that opportunity to have a different life, a lot of people have never experience order had that type of money. as soon as they get it, they go buy it. theres ee this needs or wants thing. they get counsel who's not reliable or people they can't trust. they have all these new people that come in hair thai mind and they mismanage funds. they really squander a lot of it so it comes down to mismanagement of the money and at the end of the day, they end up without any money. >> yeah, i'm sure. what about buying a lottery ticket in general? i mean there's so much debt these days. there's student loans, just trying to fill your gas tank,
11:13 am
credit card debt. do you -- i mean is buying a lottery ticket a good idea or a waste of money? i ask myself that all the time. >> it was like $176 million. you had a better chance of being struck by lightning. so when you look at it from that standpoint, there's probably smarter thing you can do with your money. if you've got high interest rates money and credit cards, that could be an issue. we have people that were spending hundreds and hundreds of dollarses out here, standing in line to buy lottery tickets where they could use the money to pay something else or take care of other responsibilities we have. >> we'll let you in on our show pool. >> they're feeling bad because they didn't win. all right. so we asked some of our team member as what they would do if they had won the $640 million and here's what they had to say. one of our writers for the show sailed she would buy an island
11:14 am
and then anonymousmy will send family, friends and charities for money. >> our copy editor says that she would buy a giant house in the mountains and a huge house at the beach and give lots of money to family and homeless clarities. and then, of course, buy her own island. our associate produszer said she would take a vacation to france and relax and then figure it out all. we can all dream. i wa to hear from you as well. you can tweet me @randikaye. you're looking live at the ncaapmoncaa march. we'll take you there live next.

doug bow gar from every coaching again. they described cigarette burns. the physical abuse then led to sexual abuse. >> one time i recall so clearly we didn't end up at the fro fi store but ended up in his apartment, and that was the first time that he disrobed me and forced himself inside of me. >> bow gar has. responded to our request for comment. but in an interview he said that the women are lying. in henryville, indiana, new video showing a school bus driver saving group of kids. it's a little bit disturbing but the children are all fine. take a look here. you're looking aet surveillance video from inside the school bus being lifted by this ef-4 tornado. nearly a dozen kidding were on that bus, but the bus driver angel perry got the kids to safety minutes before the bus was hit.
11:19 am
in the video recording you can actually hear her taking charge. >> everybody stay together. go, go, go, go, go, go. >> she outran the tornado, quickly rushing the kids out of the bus and to safety. amazing. >> now back to the trayvon martin case. the naacp is holding a rally in sanford, florida. it's one of several events happening today. they expect to hold a rally in d.c. if the next hour and his football team will hold a candlelight vigil in his honor in miramar, florida, at 6:15 eastern time. last night our soledad o'brien held a special investigation regarding trayvon. it included racial profiling and the start your ground law. the teen's final phone call to the girlfriend is key. >> and at 7:12 was our last call to him. the phone call lasted for four
11:20 am
minutes. at 7:17 according to the police recor records, they got to the scene and trayvon was shot and killed on the ground, and that tells us a lot. it tells us that she heard some part of the conversation that happened between george zimmerman and trayvon martin. and what she heard was not him coming to identify himself as any neighborhood association carp or anything like that. he said what are you doing around here, as to if suggest he didn't have a right to be here. when you listen to the 911 tapes so we can glean what his mentality is when he got out of the car. >> does it potentially compromise the case that the young woman who's an ear witness ands that phone records could be so critical to the place if she's not talked to the police but she's talked to her first. >> her parents don't want her involved in this but she has to by law talk and she fwoings to
11:21 am
talk. it's hard but she's going to go ahead and do it. >> zimmerman's family and friends have come forward insisting he's not a racist. they say he was protecting his community which was dealing with a rash of burglaries. george howell is there. george, what's the scene like there so far? >> reporter: randi, i'm sure you can hear the helicopter overhead and the gospel musical in the background. you see a lot of people showing up for this rally that was set to begin at 11:00. just a few minutes ago, we heard from a press conference with the head of the naacp with reverend al sharpton. they made two points very clear, really the focus of this rally. first they want to see george zimmermon arrest and go through due process. and secondly they also said the police chief who has temporarily
11:22 am
step add i side he should resign all together or be fired. they were putting pressure on the city manager to take action on this. a lot of people expected today. thousands of people, we're told. thousands bussed in to be part of this rally, randi. >> i know you spoke with ben jell lis earlier this morning from ncaa knaacp. what is the mission? >> it's to put pressure on state leaders to see that this case goes through due process and he is arrested. again, zimmerman has not been charged with anything in this case, but a lot of people, at least in this rally, want to see him arrested for the killing of trayvon martin. >> and are officials at all concerned that this rally could get out of hand? do they have extra security? >> that's one thing that stood out in this press conference. we heard the rev reverend al sharpton make the point they
11:23 am
have been non-violent protests, no report of violence. and as you remember, there have been several marches and rallies here over the last several days, so that is their intent, and you also see a lot of police officers blocking off streets, providing protection for thousands of people that come to this town it seems every other day, randi. >> george howell, thank you very much, live for us in sanford, florida you. can watch the replay of the special townal "bee beyond trayvon" hosted by soledad o'brien at 2:00 p.m. today right here on cnn. a chemical link has been found in me of your basic household products, things from kitty litter to your shower curtains. a breakdown of this harmful chemical next. a® naturals. removes 99% of dirt and toxins without dyes, parabens or harsh sulfates. so skin feels pure and healthy. all right. take a second and think about what you've been up to today. did you shower, shave, put on some perfume, lotion, take the clothes you're wearing out of the dryer? if you've done anything of that, scientists from the silent spring institute say you've probably been exposed to bpa. it's a chemical linked to breast and prostate cancer and heart disease. earlier i spoke with the doctor
11:27 am
about it. >> it's farmed in a lot of household things like you mention. it makes plastic sort of firm but flexible. >> i know it's been banned in other countries but it's perfectly legal to put it in the products here in the youth. >> the most common places are going to be the plastic fool containers, the lining of cans. it's in a lot of canned food, water bottles. but it is banned in other countries, but in the u.s. there's been a constant effort to decrease our exposure, so most baby bottles don't have it after 2009. sippy cups have had the bpa removes from it. but it is a pretty universal chemical. >> yesterday they decided against a ban on food and drink containers. say it's been studies and continues to study the effects of bpa and will make any necessary changes base oddtown science but it says it's in hundreds, maybe thousands of the products here. how do we know?
11:28 am
do we look for a label or how do we know it's in the product we might be using? i never thought it might be in kitty litter small one of the main polices that people are exposed to is going to be plastic food containers, maybe when you bring leftovers home from a restaurant. one way to look for it if you flip it over. the recycle triangle, anything that has a number 3 or 7 could have bpa in it. some things to try to do to avoid the exposure are going to be don't heat those containers. if you've ever microwaved a plastic container, it starts to collapse and buckles, it's telling you the chemical is denaturing. don't try to reuse water bottles, things like that. but don't heat up cans in the can. dutch the stuff out. there are ways to limit our exposure, and most of the danger says it could be harmless in animal bus they're continuing to look at it in humans. right now in the small amounts that they seem to find we
11:29 am
consume, it seems to be safe. >> what about the side effects in terms of children? are the younger kids more at risk or is it more at risk for them? >> that's exactly right. that's why they're worried about children and unborn babies. pregnant women and kids is where yu want to be careful. which is why a lot of manufacturers have removed it from sippy cups and baby bottles to avoid that because infants don't process things the way adults do. they're much more conservative. even there it's been a small amount found and the only danger seems to be in animal studies. >> are there side effects? would we know? >> it wouldn't be noticeable. it's mike row scopic. there's no test you can do voluntarily to go find out. the smart thing is this could be a problem. just try to limit your exposure. >> all right. that is extent vice and great information. doctor redi. thank you. both mitt romney and rick

there, gingrich at the bottom with 8%. right now representative paul ryan is speaking there. you see him. he endorsed romney as of yesterday. let's listen in for a moment that and while in this election, the debate won't be completely won or lost by one side or the other. one side's not going to completely vanquish the other, but this election will put in place a trajectory because of math and momentum that will last a generation, that will be very difficult to reverse. so that tells me we've got some bad news that we have to deal with. the math, the momentum, and the man that's bringing it about. well, let's look at the math. we have a debt crisis coming. we know this. everybody knows this. turn on the tv and look what's going on in europe and that's what could happen to us next if we don't get this situation under control. we can't keep spending money we don't have. we're spending -- borrowing 40 cents on every dollar.

11:37 am
>> reporter: i have to speak quietly because paul ryan is speaking right now. it certainly felt like general election yesterday about 24 hours ago when he gave an economic address. it was a market shift to this general election tone. he was reading from prepared remarks off two teleprompters on the stage. there were five, count him, five behind him on the stage and he did not mention his opponents. he didn't mention rick santorum or newt gingrich. he kept all of his focus on president obama and his ek noej policies which he said were a burst. he used that economic centrist line he used earlier. the voters said, hey, who to you think will be your vp and romney said, whoa, whoa, whoa, that's presumptuous, i can't give you those. so we have a vote on tuesday. this thing is not over yet, randi? >> do you hear -- i'm whispering because you're whispering.
11:38 am
are you hearing anything from the people. >> do they think he has it wrapped up? do they think the other people, rick santorum, newt gingrich, ron paul should step aside? >> i cover mitt romney. we're hearing from governor scott walker. we've been mentioning it before. they say, hey, we want to hear these republican backup, scott walker, that's the governor who's falling under this recall effort and one man told me said, i want to hear those republicans. we're all republicans together iechlts important for the presidential candidates to stick up for each other. remember to join fredricka whitfield at 4:00 p.m. every sunday to focus on the race. a piece of space history is lying on the ocean floor and nasa wants it back. the lost treasures from the apoll joe 11 mission.
